The Payroll Department is a division of the Accounting Department of Alief Independent School District.  Our mission is the process the district's semi-monthly payroll in an efficient and effective manner.  We welcome any questions employees may have about their paycheck.

Alief ISD does not deduct for Social Security from employee's paychecks.  Therefore, Alief must provide an alternative program for those employees not eligible for Teacher Retirement System.  This program was mandated by the government January 1, 1992 and is currently under a third party administrator.  Deferred compensation will be invested in the following manner: 100 percent to a group fixed annuity policy with JEM Resource Partners.  

The deduction is 7.5% of gross pay and is non-taxable.

Employees hired by Alief ISD after March 31, 1986 are required by the IRS to contribute 1.45 percent of their gross Medicare taxable pay to the Medicare program operated by the Social Security Administration.

The Teacher Retirement System of Texas requires Alief ISD and other public school districts to withhold 8.25 percent, effective September 1, 2023 (previously 8.0%) from all TRS eligible employee's paychecks.  

Teacher Retirement System will provide all employees an annual statement of deposits from September 1 - August 31 each year.

Employees who plan to retire should submit TRS 7 form to the Payroll department for processing.
